Prologue

The stars glistened and the full moon's light reflected off the water. But to Aang the brightest light was Katara.
She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen and the one who had been his best friend. Katara was also the kindest girl he had met, who was always there for him, and encouraged him every time he felt down. He felt he could get lost in her every word, in her deep blue eyes, and never ever feel like coming back. Maybe, Aang believed, Katara was the reason he had been stuck in the iceberg for one hundred years, maybe she was his destiny. For sure she was the reason he had even made it this far.

Aang knew that he was, and probably would always be, in love with Katara. Without her and her support, Aang was sure he would have given up many times. The problem was that Aang could not bring himself to express his feelings to her even though he had kissed her. He didn't know why it was so hard to say this to Katara, why he could barely speak when she focused her bright blue eyes on him. One time he had come so close but Sokka had grabbed Aang before he could. He knew it wasn't really Sokka's fault but he was still annoyed about that.

Tonight, though, it would be different. Aang would finally tell Katara that he loved her and nothing would stop him. He would just have to lead her away from camp so that Sokka or anybody else couldn't interrupt. This time, Aang thought, he would punch Sokka if he interrupted. On the other hand, maybe that wouldn't impress Katara.

After a couple moment's indecision, he walked up to her. "Katara, can I talk to you?"

Katara smiled at him. "Sure, Aang."

"Let's take a walk, "Aang said.

They walked in silence for a while until Katara broke it."So what do you want to talk about, Aang?" she asked.

Aang swallowed nervously. "Katara, you've been the best friend I could ever have and I want to say thank you for supporting me. Without you I would have never survived, especially after what happened in Ba Sing Se. I'm just trying to say... Katara, I love you."

Aang could feel himself blushing and his heart beating faster as each second passed while he waited for Katara to say something.

Katara stared at him openmouthed and Aang watched as different emotions flashed across her face.
Please say something, he silently begged.

"Aang...I think I love you too,” she whispered.

Aang's heart soared as he took her in his arms and hugged her. "I was hoping you'd say that,” he said in her ear.

Then he took her face in his hands and leaned in...

Ribbit!

Aang woke up with a start as he tried to figure out where he was. The Western Air Temple. He was lying on the ground and it was morning. It had all been a dream. He groaned. Would he ever be able to tell Katara his true feelings outside of his dreams?

As he got up, he tried not to look too disappointed because then he'd have to make up a lie to cover up his true emotions. Katara was too perceptive sometimes.

Aang knew that he had to tell her someday and that day had to be soon. Sozin's comet was coming this summer and he wasn't sure if he could win, if he would survive. He wanted to tell Katara how he felt about her before then, in case he didn't make it.
He sighed. Why was it so hard to say a couple of words but so easy to fight a crazy firebender like Azula? He didn't know.
Next time,Aang thought, I won't be dreaming.
This is my first fan-fiction and I'm just beginning to write this story. I know it's a pretty long prologue but I didn't think it really fit as the first chapter(which I'm still working on). Hopefully i'll be able to get it done soon and keep writing more. Please comment:)

here's the link to my first chapter
